Rossi Honors Mark Nobile with Community Pride Award for Decades of Litter Cleanup
November 25, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland) announced Mark Nobile of Unity Township was presented on Monday with the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award in recognition of more than 30 years of volunteer work keeping local roadways clean.
“We cannot help but be impressed by Mark’s continuous efforts that show just what one person’s commitment can do for an entire community,” said Rossi. “We enjoyed hearing his stories as he expressed his appreciation to the Unity Township supervisors and the township’s maintenance crews, who routinely travel the roads to collect the ‘orange’ bags he fills during his cleanups. Mark’s motto is “Bag a Week, Keep it Neat!”
Rossi joined Unity Township supervisors and staff, community member John Petrarca; Heidi Pedicore of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful; and Mike Skapura, Natalie Reese of Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling and Nobile’s wife, Colleen, for the presentation of the award.
“This award is rarely presented to an individual and is usually given to a group or school organization,” said Pedicore.
Rossi nominated Nobile for the Community Pride Award.
Nobile started picking up litter more than three decades ago when he was living and working in Harrisburg. After retiring and returning to the Unity Township community where he grew up, he noticed roadside trash accumulating along the route he jogged and resumed his cleanup efforts. His work quickly revealed the extent of the litter problem.
Rossi also expressed appreciation to the Unity Township supervisors and the township’s maintenance crews, who regularly collect the orange bags Nobile fills during his cleanups.
“Mark and the township crews place themselves at risk by removing debris that should never have been discarded in the first place,” said Rossi. “Residents need to be more mindful about littering and to dispose of trash properly.”
